Happy tips for your family portraits

Preparing for your family session with Cloudia Chen Photography

Thank you for booking Cloudia Chen Photography. Let’s work together to make your photoshooting a nice and enjoyable experience! If you like style ideas in magazines or movies etc.,feel free to share those clipping or phone pics.

And here are some tips.

1/Clothing and what to wear for you

There’s no rules when it comes to what you should wear, but try to avoid colors that detract from your face:  Your clothes should be free of logos, staying away from large busy prints and loud vibrant colors because they usually command the viewer's attention. Choose colors that compliment each family member. For visual ideas, please visit my pinterest album for inspiration.

All you intend to wear should be laid out, clean and ironed the night before. Wrinkle-free and hair-free clothing makes your image much more professional.

2/Accessories

  • Glasses - If folks wouldn’t recognize you without glasses, you want to wear glasses in your shoot. However, the glare on glasses can detract from your eyes in photos. You may consider have your lenses removed from your frames for your shoot.

  • Hair accessories:for outdoor shooting, be ready to put your hair up and make it look nice in case of a windy day. Bring bobby pins, hair clips, headbands or any other favorite accessories.

  • Scarves and hats: they usually work well with simple and single-color clothing.

3/Make-up

  • A subtle application of makeup can soften your skin. Make sure it matches your skin tone, or your face may look orange compared to the rest of your body. Highlight your eyebrow and eye lines,as they can shape your facial expression.

  • Fingers and toes should be clean and groomed.  Nails should be a natural color such as nude, french and light-pink. You want to be careful your nail color doesn't detract from your face as the primary subject. The focus of a viewer naturally gravitates first to laud vibrant colors, then secondly to the rest of the photo.

  • Be sure eyebrows are groomed, teeth are clean, and lips are not dry.  If necessary, please prepare a lip balm or a moisturizer with you.

During our photo session

If we meet at your place, I will spend a few minutes upon arrival looking for the best light and suitable spot, possibly in  your child’s room, your bedroom, living room, or even kitchen. Please prepare rooms to be photographed by putting away scattered small things and removing picture frames or calendar off the wall. If additional styling is needed, you and I will work together to create an atmosphere that is both authentic and polished. If we shoot outdoors. It can be your backyard, local neighborhood, scenic landscape, park or playgrounds nearby.
